Which Boss chair? Start with the upholstery.
Boss makes most of the seating on our floor. Four materials do most of the deciding, and they differ more than the photos let on.
We carry 289 Boss pieces you can quote today, and most of them are chairs. When someone asks us which one to buy, we don't start with the arms or the base. We start with what the chair is covered in, because that decides how it wears, how it cleans and who should sit in it.
Boss uses four upholsteries across the range. Two are its own named materials, LeatherPlus and CaressoftPlus. One is built for clinics. The fourth is plain mesh. Here's what each one actually is, what it costs on our floor, and where we'd put it.
Four materials, compared
Counts and prices are chairs on our site with that material in the name. Prices are list; volume orders are quoted separately.

| What it is | Leather infused with polyurethane, for a softer hand and a longer life than bonded leather. | Boss's trademarked vinyl. Looks and feels like leather, breathes better, and is harder to scuff. | Vinyl treated to resist microbes, on frames where the back and seat separate so every seam can be wiped. | An open-weave back that lets air through. Often paired with a padded fabric or LeatherPlus seat. |
| Cleans with | A damp cloth | A damp cloth | Clinical disinfectant | Vacuum and spot clean |
| Runs cool | Warmer over a long day | Better than most vinyl | Warmer over a long day | Coolest of the four |
| Where we'd put it | Private offices and conference rooms where the chair is seen | Shared desks and reception, where it gets used by everyone | Exam rooms, labs, waiting areas, anywhere that gets disinfected | Open plan and call teams, all-day task seating |
